Who wouldn’t want to be a big winner at the casino? Casino players I talk to say they dream, visualize, and think about winning a jackpot every time they drive or travel to the casino. Many say they even hope one day to see their own photos here in a winners’ feature, smiling, maybe a bit shocked or dazed from the thrill of winning big. Some casino players say they even have premonitions—or is it wishful thinking—of their casino good luck.
“I’m Gonna Win That.”
That seems to be the case of Stanley C. when he went to Valley View Casino & Hotel on March 2nd, to take advantage of an invitation he received for an overnight stay at the new, beautiful Valley View Hotel. He and his wife, Sabrina, looked forward to enjoying an award-winning lobster buffet that evening. As they lined up for their delicious meal, Stanley saw a sign for the Colossal Coin mystery progressive’s amazing $730,000-plus jackpot, and he told his wife, “I’m gonna win that!” And two hours later, he did! Stanley won the Colossal Coin mystery progressive of $733,501.59, Valley View Casino’s largest slot machine payout ever.
The semi-retired jackpot winner from Escondido played a penny Konami African Diamond slot machine after enjoying The Buffet, and one of his 60-cent spins set off the almost three-quarter million dollar Colossal Coin jackpot. Just a few weeks before, he had played African Diamond in Las Vegas and won $1,000, so that slot had a definite attraction. His huge jackpot, however, was Valley View Casino & Hotel’s mystery progressive jackpot, the awesome $1,000,000 Colossal Coin.
$1,000,000 Colossal Coin Jackpot
The Colossal Coin jackpot is guaranteed to hit between $10,000 and $1,000,000. Winners are selected at random. To win, players have to make sure to use their Players Club card when they play on their favorite slot machines.
Valley View Casino began Colossal Coin in April, 2005. The first Colossal Coin jackpot was awarded May 1, 2005, and Valley View has had 107 winners so far, and has given out $7,472,359.94! The biggest Colossal Coin jackpot before Stanley was $172,724.44. The Colossal Coin jackpot can hit at anytime, on any of Valley View Casino & Hotel’s 2,000 Certified Loose slot machines. After Stanley’s historic win, the Colossal Coin jackpot was immediately reset to $10,000 and continually grows. At our press time, the jackpot is over $70,000, and is guaranteed to award another lucky Players Club card member sometime between now and its climb to $1,000,000.
And unlike other casino progressive jackpots, Valley View Casino & Hotel awards the Colossal Coin jackpot in one lump sum—not as an annuity—which means Stanley and Sabrina are now enjoying some life-changing cash! Stanley was awarded the $733,501 bundled in stacks of $10,000, in a media event at the casino on March 4th. General Manager Bruce Howard counted out some of the cash from a metal suitcase handcuffed to a Valley View Casino & Hotel security guard.
“I’m not usually at a loss for words, but I am like, ‘Wow,’ ” Stanley said, sitting beside his wife Sabrina, his eyes welling up in tears.
Stanley and Sabrina have been players at Valley View since it opened in 2001, and although he owns a home in Vancouver, Canada, they call Escondido home. And what’s the first thing he’ll buy with his lucky winnings?
“When we told our kids, our 15-year-old son asked for a brand new iPad, so that’s probably the first thing we’ll buy. And I think my wife's ready for a new car,” he said. As for his semi-retired status? He said, “I may consider retirement soon.”
Big Money Winners
All these Southern California casino winners since the beginning of 2011 went to the casino with the dream of winning, and that’s what they did, including Elizabeth W. The next time she pulls up to the valet entrance at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, she’ll step out of her brand new, luxury E350 Mercedes Benz. Elizabeth drove away from Fantasy Springs with the $60,000 vehicle on Saturday, February 26th, as the grand prize winner in the Romance the Road Mercedes Benz Cash & Prize Giveaway.
From nearby Palm Desert, Elizabeth was one of 24 Fantasy Rewards Club finalists vying for the new set of wheels. On the evening of February 26th, each finalist was called to the game stage and asked to select a keychain at random. Each keychain was numbered corresponding to a space on the prize wheel on the stage. After each contestant had selected a keychain, the game’s emcee gave the wheel a big spin. The crowd watched to see where the wheel would stop. All of a sudden, a scream came from the audience. It was Elizabeth.
“Oh my gosh! I’ve never won anything, and now to win a Mercedes!” she said. She will certainly look good driving down the streets of the Palm Springs area in her luxury prize.
Fantasy Springs Resort Casino loves giving away luxury cars. Starting this month, get ready for the Picture Perfect Porsche Giveaway. On May 21st, one lucky Fantasy Rewards Club member will drive off from Fantasy Springs Resort in a brand new Porsche Boxster.
